Things That Are Actually Worth Splurging On

A lot of us like a bargain, and if you don’t have a lot of disposable income, it can be difficult to splurge money on things, especially when there are cheaper alternatives.

However, when it comes to everyday household products, sometimes it’s worth spending more. As they say, you pay for what you get! While some things are worth saving up for, it can be hard choosing which items are worthy of splurging on.

If I may, let me guide you on which household products are worth the extra money and why. You might be surprised at how many pricier things will actually save you money in the long run.

Dishwashers

Dishwashers range in price, but they’re becoming a staple in most modern households. Although a lot of people are wary about the price of dishwashers and the amount of water and energy they use, it’s believed that dishwashers are actually more sustainable than washing up by hand, especially if you opt for an energy-efficient make.

Dishwashers are most beneficial for larger households, and households that require more regular washing up. Once you own a dishwasher, you’ll wonder why you never made the investment earlier, when you realise how much time, effort – and even money and water – you’ll have saved in the long-run.

More information on the benefits of dishwashers can be found in our ‘Why You Should Stop Washing Dishes By Hand’ guide.

High quality kitchen knives

A good quality knife is an essential for budding chefs, or basically just anybody who enjoys cooking. Cheaper knives can get blunt easily, meaning that you have to keep buying, only for them to need replacing again, until it becomes a vicious cycle.

However, if you spend more on a high quality kitchen knife now, you’ll be thankful later because they last forever, potentially saving you money in the long-run, not to mention how much time it’ll save you as they will glide through things with much more ease.

Good kitchen knives range in price, so no matter what culinary skills or budget you have, you’re bound to find one that suits you.

A high-quality vacuum cleaner

Let’s face it, nobody enjoys lugging a temperamental vacuum cleaner around the house for hours without proof of any significant results. Not only is this a waste of time, but it also makes vacuum cleaning seem like a pointless task.

With a wide range of high-quality vacuum cleaners available, this chore can become a breeze, with easier control and much faster, more effective results in the end. You can even opt for a cordless style, if you’re fed up of tripping over wires every time you need to clean.

Coffee maker

Drink a lot of coffee, but not a fan of the instant variety? Your solution to this is to probably just go to Starbucks, or any other coffee shop. This might not seem too expensive at the time, but in the long-term, you’ll find that a lot of your money will be spent on coffee from cafes.

Alternatively, you could instead invest in a high-quality coffee or expresso machine, which can bring Starbucks to your home. Sure, this gadget might sound expensive, but when you add up your coffee shop receipts, it’ll probably look comparably cheap.

A food processor

Food processors are great for making, well, pretty much anything. From sauces to dips, soups to spreads and many more, you can slice, cut, grind and chop ingredients instantly with this device.

If a big food processor is still too expensive for you, you could even opt for a handheld mini food processor. This will produce the same results, but just in smaller quantities and for a fraction of the price.

Electric toothbrush

Still using a standard toothbrush that isn’t as effective and doesn’t take long until the bristles become splayed and frayed? When you invest in an electronic toothbrush, you’ll be amazed at how clean your mouth feels, and you’ll realise how less effective your old toothbrush is.

Sure, the price-tag on an electric toothbrush is off-putting now, but you’ll be thankful later when you’ve saved a ton of money on dentist appointments.

Comfy bedding

On average, people spend around 8 hours in their bed every day, which is why it’s OK to splurge on making it comfy. Cheaper mattresses and pillows can cause damage and problems to your back and neck, because you spend so much time on them.

A comfortable bed will improve your night’s sleep, and memory-foam mattresses and pillows can protect your body from encountering problems. If you don’t want to go all out on a memory-foam mattress, you can alternatively buy memory-foam pads to go over your mattress, and these have similar results.

Branded cleaning products

Cleaning products can be a pain to buy because they can often be expensive and, well, just not fun. Nobody really enjoys cleaning, which is why it can be tempting to just go for the cheaper, dollar store’s own brand products that claim to be ‘multi-purpose’.

However, this will make you feel like you’ve wasted your money even more, because these products are cheaper for a reason: they simply don’t work, at least nowhere near as well as a branded product does, for a few dollars more.

Just think: is it better to spend a bit more and have a properly clean house, or save money, put in the same amount of work, and still have an unclean house?
